SPRINGFIELD, IL ---- The women's tennis team won two out of three matches this weekend as they hosted a four-team tournament at Washington Park and Chatham Glenwood. After falling to William Jewell on Friday, the Prairie Stars dismantled Kentucky Wesleyan and Lewis and Clark Community College to improve to 6-8 on the season.
WILLIAM JEWELL 7, ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 2In the first match of the weekend, the Prairie Stars fell to William Jewell. In doubles, UIS battled in three tough doubles matches, taking one of the three decisions.
Katelyn Michl and
Danielle Mendoza won the final match for UIS with an 8-4 win.
Faith Hook and
Jasmin Morgan fell 8-3 in the second position after
Jane Carter and
Sharon Danquah fell by the same score in the top spot.
In singles, Carter rolled to a 6-1, 6-3 win but was the only singles player to grab a victory as the other matches fell in straight sets.
ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 9, KENTUCKY WESLEYAN 0In the first of two Saturday matches, UIS took care of Kentucky Wesleyan, not surrendering a single match in singles or doubles. In doubles, the Prairie Stars didn't even drop a set, as the duo's of Carter and Hook and Morgan and Mendoza each won 8-0.
In singles, Carter won 6-1, 6-0 while Morgan won in the two slot 6-3, 6-3. Hook didn't drop a single game, winning 6-0, 6-0 while Mendoza and Michl won in the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 8, LEWIS AND CLARK 1The Prairie Stars dropped just one game on Saturday coming in the final singles game against Lewis and Clark. Each doubles pair picked up an 8-2 victory, giving UIS an early dominating lead. Carter won 6-3, 6-3 after Danquah swept her games 6-0, 6-0. Hook won the lone three set match of the day, coming back after a 1-6 first set to win the final two 6-4, 10-3.
The Prairie Stars will return home on Wednesday to take on Quincy University at Washington Park. First serve is set for 12:00 pm.
