UIS Prepares for Final Week of Regular Season

SPRINGFIELD, IL --- Over the course of the next seven days, the Illinois Springfield women's soccer team will play three matches that decide their fate in regards to making the GLVC conference tournament. UIS will host Bellarmine Friday night --- which will serve as senior night --- before traveling to Southern Indiana on Sunday for a 12:00 pm matinee. The regular season will conclude next Wednesday at home against McKendree with a 5:00 pm match.

SETTING THE SCENE
The Prairie Stars (7-8, 4-8) currently sit in 11th place in the GLVC standings, but are just 1.5 games out of the final playoff spot. Lewis, Southern Indiana, and UIndy occupy the three spots ahead of the Prairie Stars.

With three games remaining, UIS will face Bellarmine, who has already clinched a berth into the playoff while Southern Indiana, McKendree, and UIS will be fighting for one of the final spots.

SENIOR NIGHT CEREMONY
Friday night, the women's soccer team will honor the four seniors on this year's team: Alena Miller, Alena Eitenmiller, Sam Boettjer, and Nikki Auble. Each one of the four seniors has been a member of the soccer team for four seasons. The ceremony will take place in between the men's and women's game at approximately 7:00 pm.

SETTING THE BAR HIGH
The Prairie Stars have now won seven games on the season, setting a single-season record for wins in a season. The previous record was five, which was set last year. Also, with four wins in the GLVC, the Prairie Stars have tied that single-season mark as well from a year ago.

SEVEN WINS AND IN
Since 2010, the top-eight teams have gone on to compete in the GLVC conference tournament. Under this format, only once has a team won seven games within the conference and not made the conference tournament. That was in 2012 when a 7-8 UIndy squad missed out by one game and in a season in which five GLVC teams earned a berth to the NCAA Regional.

With three games remaining, UIS has a chance to get to that seven win plateau.

 A SEASON OF DEPTH
The Prairie Stars have 12 players that have recorded a point this season, nine of which have recorded a goal. Macy Martin leads the way with five goals and ten points on the season while Taylor Mraz leads the team with three assists. Martin is just the third player to notch five goals in a season, joining current coach, Erin Egolf (three times), and Kim Tokarski.
