Box Score SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) improved to 6-6 on the season with a 111-75 win over the Eagles of Robert Morris – Peoria. A 56-point opening half for the Prairie Stars was enough to put the game out of reach, as they cruised to their second straight victory to close out their non-conference season.
Jamall Millison scored 18 points in the victory, but it was his first basket that meant the most. The senior guard is now the UIS Division II all-time leading scorer, passing
Dylan Sparkman's mark. Millison now has 891 points and is closing in on the quest to become the second 1,000 point scorer in UIS men's basketball history.
JJ Cravatta began where he left off on Wednesday, making his first three-point attempt of the night and then went on to score seven of the first nine points for the Prairie Stars. Up 17-12, the Prairie Stars rattled off a 32-4 run spanning just over 11 minutes. From that point on, the game was never in jeopardy as UIS won consecutive games for the second time this season.
Shooting was the story of the day for the Prairie Stars as they made 40-of-66 attempts, good for a 60.6 percent mark from the field. They also made 11 three's on the night, including seven in the first half. Five players scored in double figures for the Prairie Stars in the 36 point win, led by
Bahari Amaya who totaled 19 points off the bench. Millison added 18 points, while
Richard Freeman had 15 on 6-of-8 shooting.
Zach Steinberg and Cravatta each had 12 points on the night.
The Prairie Stars also had 22 assists on the night, nine of which came from
Davi Austin and turned the ball over just eight times. The five starters for UIS made 24-of-35 shots, coming in at just under 69 percent on the night.
In their final tune-up before the full gauntlet of Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) action, the Prairie Stars took care of business. The final 16 games of the season will all be GLVC play, beginning on Thursday when the Prairie Stars travel to Quincy University for a 7:30 pm tip-off.
