SPRINGFIELD, IL - The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team plays its final home games of the 2015 season this weekend against Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis. Game times are set for Friday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m., respectively.
The Prairie Stars enter the weekend in a three-way tie for 10th place with Southern Indiana and Wisconsin-Parkside in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings. UIS lost to Rockhurst on Wednesday, 2-0 at Kiwanis Stadium and is now 3-6-1 in the GLVC.
Sunday is senior day for the UIS soccer programs. Three players for the women's side play their final matches at Kiwanis Stadium this weekend:
Paige Polonus (Plainfield, Ill.),
Eileen Kenny (Tinley Park, Ill.) and
Haley Ochromowicz (Bolingbrook, Ill.).
Quick Hits- With one more win, the Prairie Stars would set a program record for wins in a season (5) and GLVC wins in a season (4)
- Senior goalkeeper Paige Polonus leads the GLVC in saves this season and is fifth in save percentage (.839). She is currently allowing 1.10 goals per game and is tied for third in the league with five shutouts.
- After going 3-1-1 over a five-game stretch in late September, the Prairie Stars have won just one of their last four games.
- Sophomore Sam Morin (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) scored her third goal of the season last Sunday in the team's win against St. Joseph's. It was her second game-winning goal of the season.
- The top eight teams in the GLVC advance to the GLVC tournament. All five of the team's remaining games are against teams ahead of UIS in the standings, including three of the top-four teams in the conference.
Last TIme- The Prairie Stars lost to Maryville, 1-0, and UMSL, 2-0, last season at Kiwanis Stadium. The last time UIS defeated Maryville was in the 2011 season. Against the Tritons, the Prairie Stars are 1-1-1 in their last three meetings.
Scouting Maryville- The Saints are in ninth place in the GLVC with a 5-4-3 overall record and a 4-3-3 GLVC mark.
- Amanda Wiechins leads the team in scoring with six goals.
- Shannon Foley and Wiechins lead the team in scoring with 13 points each.
Scouting UMSL- The Tritons are in third place in the GLVC with a 9-1-2 overall record and a 7-1-2 GLVC mark.
- Freshman forward McKayla Harder was named the GLVC Offensive Player of the Week last week. She scored a pair of goals and dished out an assist in three road wins for UMSL.
- Miriam Taylor leads the team with 10 goals and 23 points.
- UMSL heads to McKendree on Friday before coming to Kiwanis Stadium on Sunday.
