RENSSELAER, Ind. - The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team pushed the game to five sets, but ultimately it was host Saint Joseph's that took home a 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 17-25, 25-17, 15-10) victory on Friday evening at Scharf Fieldhouse.
Junior
Nikki Madoch (Algonquin, Ill.) and sophomore
Ashley Beaton (Wildwood, Mo.) each recorded 11 kills in the loss, while Beaton narrowly missed a double-double with eight digs. Freshman
Lexi Hall (Champaign, Ill.) dished out 28 helpers on 47 of the Prairie Stars' attacks and recorded five digs and two aces.
Lauren Robertson recorded a match-high 13 kills for the Pumas, while tallying a triple-double with 19 assists and 16 digs. Bridget Krasowski had 10 kills and five aces on the night.
The Pumas out-hit UIS, .203 to .156, while Saint Joseph's had 12 aces to the Prairie Stars' five.
Illinois Springfield recorded a match-high .333 attack percentage in the third set, while holding SJC to just .081 hitting. The Pumas bounced back in the fourth set as they hit .345 and held UIS to just seven kills in that stanza.
The Prairie Stars now turn their attention to Indianapolis where first serve takes place on Saturday at 2 p.m. EST. UIndy dropped a five-set decision to McKendree on Friday.
