INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - A goal in the 53rd minute pushed the Greyhounds past the University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team, 1-0, Friday night at Key Stadium.
Despite earning five corner kicks in the game, including four in the first half, the Prairie Stars produced just one shot in the game. UIS went on the attack right out of the gate with three corner kicks in the first eight minutes, but was unable to find space for a shot.
Freshman goalkeeper
Tommy Geile (O'Fallon, Mo.) made his first save of the game in the 29th minute on a shot from UIndy's Casey Zimmerman. He finished the night with three saves.
The Prairie Stars only shot of the game came in the 30th minute from freshman
Ismael Serratos (Carthage, Mo.), but his effort sailed wide. The Greyhounds came right back in the 35th minute when Casey Castle's shot deflected off the post but stayed out of the goal as the game went to halftime scoreless.
UIndy took the lead on its first shot of the second period and never looked back, outshooting UIS 6-0 after scoring in the 53rd minute. Geile kept the Prairie Stars close with saves in the 67th and 86 minutes, but the visitors were unable to find the equalizer.
The Prairie Stars stay on the road for a game with Saint Joseph's on Sunday at 12 p.m.
