Pat Sodemann is in his fourth season in 2022-23 as an assistant coach for the University of Illinois Springfield men’s basketball program.

In 2021-22, Sodemann and the Prairie Stars finished the season with a 12-17 overall record. UIS had a seven-game winning streak during the campaign, tying for its longest during its NCAA era. The Prairie Stars were improved on the defensive side, allowing 4.5 points less per game than the 2020-21 season.

Sodemann helped Chase Robinson be named a second-team all-GLVC selection. Two Prairie Stars were included on the all-Freshmen team in Evan Altman and Jordan Rice.

In 2020-21, Sodemann helped a young UIS team win eight games during its GLVC-only schedule. The Prairie Stars had one of the top rebounding teams in the GLVC, as well as ranked third in fewest turnovers per game.

Sodemann helped with the development of Jack Weber, who was named to the GLVC all-freshmen team and who led the GLVC in field-goal percentage.

In his first season, Sodemann helped the Prairie Stars go 14-14 overall. Included in those victories were three wins over nationally-ranked teams, which was a new program record. UIS improved its scoring offense and scoring defense in his first season, and were one of the nation’s top three-point shooting teams.

Sodemann helped Daniel Soetan earn first-team all-GLVC honors, and Robinson was named to the GLVC all-freshmen team.

Sodemann was a graduate assistant coach for UIS head coach Matt Brock from 2015-2017 at Missouri Baptist University. He helped the Spartans go 36-27 in those two seasons, including a 19-12 mark in 2015-16.

Sodemann also spent one year at Ohio Dominican and Truman State. At Ohio Dominican, he helped the program go 20-11 in 2017-18, win a conference tournament championship, and advance to the NCAA Division II Tournament. In 2018-19, Sodemann was part of a Truman State program that went 14-15 overall, and advanced to the GLVC Tournament.

Sodemann was a member of the Truman State basketball program from 2010-12. He averaged 4.8 points and 1.7 rebounds as a true freshman, and then redshirted his second season. Sodemann transferred to Illinois Wesleyan where he averaged 9.5 points a game for his final three collegiate seasons. He ranked fourth in the school’s record book for three-point percentage, and tenth in total made three-pointers.
