Competed in track and field with Wesclin High School in Trenton for four years … competed in cross country for three years (Sophomore-Senior) … earned All-Cahokia Conference honors as a senior in cross country … tabbed with second-team all-area recognition as a senior in cross country … two-time Illinois High School Association (IHSA) 1A state qualifier in the 4x800 relay (Junior, Senior) … team captured 4x800 Cahokia conference title during senior year … fielded 4x800 relay, which put together a time of 8:21.33 during the state prelims … secured 1,600 PR of 4:50 as a senior … turned in 800 PR of 2:07 as a senior … raced to 3-mile PR of 16:20 as a senior … recorded a 3-mile season best of 17:20 as a junior.

The son of Jim and Mika Detmer … has three siblings, Ryan, Kristen and Owen … a Management Information Systems major.
 
WHY I CHOSE UIS:
I chose UIS because it was close to home and I felt it was a great environment. It was also a great opportunity to continue my passion for running while earning a degree from the University of Illinois.
