Illinois Springfield men's golf finished tied for fifth at the Midwest Collegiate on Monday and Tuesday at Rock Hollow Golf Club, posting a three-round score of 875.

The Prairie Stars opened with a 296 before putting together their best round of the tournament with a 284 in the second round on Monday afternoon. UIS closed with a 295 to finish at 11-over par and tied for fifth in the 18-team field.

UIS finished ahead of several conference and regional opponents, including Indianapolis, Quincy and Missouri S&T, while Findlay, Grand Valley State, Missouri-St. Louis and Maryville finished ahead of the Prairie Stars in that order.

Brooks Cluver led UIS with a fourth-place tie, finishing at 2-under par with a 214. He opened with a 72 before firing a 69 in the second round and closing with a 73. Sacha Lamraski tied for 14th at 218, carding rounds of 71, 72 and 75.

Cash McDonell tied for 21st at 219 after rounds of 76, 72 and 71. Peyton Woods finished tied for 57th with a 227, shooting 77, 71 and 79, while Jake Baldin also recorded a 227 with rounds of 77, 74 and 76.

Cluver and McDonell each recorded an eagle during the tournament. Cluver made his eagle on the 13th hole in the opening round, while McDonell added one on the third hole during the final round.

"Brooks put together an outstanding week and really showed what he's capable of against a very strong field," said head coach Josh Edison. "Cash continues to make strides as a freshman, and his strong finish this week was another positive step in his development. You can see his game starting to come together, and I'm excited to watch that progress continue this year. Sacha has really responded well over the last couple of events and is starting to look like himself again. Rock Hollow is a demanding golf course and will be the site of our conference championship, so this week was an important opportunity for our group. I thought we showed a lot of potential, and there are plenty of positives we can build on moving forward."

The Prairie Stars are past the midpoint of their fall season and will have a quick turnaround before their next event. UIS travels to Bartonville, Ill., for the Coyote Creek Classic, hosted by Bradley, Sunday and Monday, Oct. 4-5.
