This Week in UIS Athletics: Sept. 14-20

The UIS Prairie Stars continue their fall season with a busy week of competition, highlighted by home soccer matches against Truman State on Wednesday and the beginning of conference play for volleyball. 

Wednesday, Sept. 16 

3 p.m. — Women's Soccer vs. Truman State 
UIS (3-2, 1-1 GLVC) looks to bounce back from a narrow 1-0 defeat against Drury (1-2-3, 1-0-2 GLVC). The Prairie Stars return to Kiwanis Stadium to face Truman State (1-2-3, 0-1-2 GLVC). The Bulldogs are looking for their first win in conference play. UIS won the last matchup between the two teams but trails in the all-time series, 2-8-2. Faculty & Staff Recognition and #WeAreStars Night will be part of the game-day festivities. 
 
5:30 p.m. — Men's Soccer vs. Truman State 
UIS (0-4-1, 0-1-1 GLVC) is still on the hunt for their first win of the season as it prepares to face conference opponent Truman State (2-2-1, 1-1-1 GLVC). The Bulldogs are coming off a tie against Maryville (3-2-1, 1-0-1 GLVC), while the Prairie Stars look to bounce back after a road defeat against non-conference opponent St. Cloud State. UIS has not lost to Truman State since 2015, winning eight of the last nine matchups between the two teams. The game will also feature Faculty & Staff Recognition and #WeAreStars Night. 

Friday, Sept. 18 

10:30 a.m. — Men's Cross Country at Illinois State Redbird Invite 
UIS travels to the Illinois State Redbird Invite. The Prairie Stars took first place in their last outing at the Prairie Star Invitational. Although UIS did not have the overall winner, the Prairie Stars finished in second through seventh place at their home meet in early September. It will be the first race of the year at 8K distance.
 
11:15 a.m. — Women's Cross Country at Illinois State Redbird Invite 
UIS women's cross country team travels to the Illinois State Redbird Invite this week. The Prairie Stars captured first place at the Prairie Star Invitational, their season opener, back on Sept. 5. It will be the first race of the year at full 5K distance.
 
5:00 p.m. CT / 6:00 p.m ET — Volleyball at UIndy 
UIS (3-7) is set to start conference play this week as it travels to Indianapolis, Ind., to take on the UIndy Greyhounds (10-1). The Prairie Stars picked up a win in their final game of the Griffon Invitational against Arkansas Tech (7-6) and look to carry that momentum into the conference opener. UIndy had a 10-match winning streak before falling to No. 15 Lynn (8-1) in its last match. UIS trails in the all-time series, 4-14. 

Saturday, Sept. 19 

12 p.m. — Women's Soccer at Missouri S&T 
UIS continues conference play as it travels to Rolla, Mo., to take on Missouri S&T (3-1-1, 2-0-1 GLVC). UIS will be coming off its midweek matchup against Truman State (1-2-3, 0-1-2 GLVC), while the Miners will face Rockhurst (5-0-1, 3-0 GLVC) in their midweek matchup. Missouri S&T has not lost since the opening game of the season. UIS leads the all-time series, 9-8. 
 
2:30 p.m. — Men's Soccer at Missouri S&T 
Following its midweek game against Truman State (2-2-1, 1-1-1 GLVC), UIS travels to Rolla, Mo., to take on No. 13 Missouri S&T (4-1, 2-1 GLVC). Missouri S&T leads the all-time series, 12-6-3. 
 
3 p.m. — Volleyball at Lewis 
UIS (3-7) will continue conference play as it travels to Romeoville, Ill., to take on Lewis (6-5). UIS has won this matchup just once in program history.
