UIS Athletics is proud to announce that all 15 of its athletic programs competing in the GLVC have been awarded the Team Academic All-GLVC honor for the second consecutive year. This accolade is part of the annual GLVC Academic Awards Week and reflects the exceptional academic achievements of UIS student-athletes.
The Team Academic All-GLVC honor is bestowed upon athletic programs that achieve a team GPA of 3.30 or higher across the two semesters of the academic year. This recognition is a testament to the commitment and dedication of UIS student-athletes who excel not only in their sports but also in their academic pursuits.
Leading the way among the UIS teams, women's tennis earned an outstanding team GPA of 3.92, the highest in the conference across all schools and sports. Other top-performing teams include women's soccer with a GPA of 3.79 and women's golf with a GPA of 3.77. Additionally, men's tennis achieved a commendable GPA of 3.66, highlighting the academic excellence of the UIS tennis program.
The collective achievement of all 15 programs underscores the strong academic culture at UIS. The department's overall GPA was an impressive 3.62 for the spring semester, following a 3.63 in the fall. This accomplishment not only highlights the individual dedication of student-athletes but also reflects the supportive environment fostered by coaches, academic advisors, and the university as a whole.
Director of Athletics Mike Hermann acknowledged the remarkable achievements of UIS student-athletes, stating that their performance is a testament to the hard work they put in while competing at a high level in athletics. The consistent academic excellence, with every UIS team earning a GPA above 3.30 for the year, is a significant milestone, achieved only twice in the history of the program.
Several UIS teams have continued to build on impressive streaks, with softball celebrating a 13-year streak of earning the Team Academic All-GLVC honor. Both the men's and women's tennis teams received the distinction for the 14th time in 16 years, while the women's golf and volleyball teams maintain an 11-year streak.Â
Congratulations to all UIS student-athletes and their support network for their exceptional academic accomplishments. UIS Athletics is proud to celebrate these achievements, which exemplify the balance of academic excellence and athletic prowess.
