Prairie Stars Men’s Track Set for Two Meets This Week

4/16/2026 7:00:00 PM

The UIS men's track & field team will split its roster across two meets this weekend, competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, on Friday and the Gibson Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana, on Saturday.

At Bryan Clay, Matt Padilla and Joey Karlesky will represent the Prairie Stars in the 5,000 meters. The duo is scheduled to compete Friday morning at 7:00 a.m. PT in heats two and three, respectively. Both runners are making their season debut in the 5K after opening the outdoor campaign with strong 10,000-meter performances. With extensive experience in the event, they will look to post competitive times against one of the deepest distance fields in the country.

On Saturday, three Prairie Stars will take on the 1,500 meters at the Gibson Invitational. Freshmen Chase Cooley and River Derby, along with sophomore Lucas Naugle, make up a young group aiming to test their speed and gain experience against a field that includes Division I competition.

Saturday's running events in Terre Haute begin at noon ET.

Live stats will be available for both meets, with FloTrack providing video coverage of the Bryan Clay Invitational.
