Illinois Springfield women's tennis dropped a 4-0 decision at home to reigning GLVC champion Rockhurst on Sunday at Washington Park.
The Prairie Stars were competitive throughout the match, particularly in doubles play and at No. 2 singles, but ultimately came up short against one of the top teams from the GLVC East.
At No. 1 doubles,
Ema Norma Bordean and
Niamh Grogan battled before falling 6-3.
Jane Carter and
Cristina Mendoza Romero also put together a strong effort at No. 3 doubles before dropping a 6-4 decision.
Alisha Deogaonkar and Maria Garcia Game lost 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play,
Ema Norma Bordean fell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while
Alisha Deogaonkar dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 3 singles.
Jane Carter lost 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
Cristina Mendoza Romero was locked in a tightly contested match at No. 2 singles when the team result was clinched. After winning the opening set 6-1, she dropped the second set 7-5 and was playing in a third set when the match ended.
Niamh Grogan was trailing 6-3 in the opening set of her No. 4 singles match when play was stopped. No result was recorded at No. 6 singles.
