3/12/2026 3:00:00 PM

UIS senior distance runner Madelyn Miller-Ross will race the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships at 5:40 p.m. CT (6:40 p.m. ET) on Friday, March 13.

It will be Miller-Ross' second career appearance at the indoor national championships and her fourth appearance at a national championship meet across cross country and track.

This season, Miller-Ross has run as fast as 16:28.26 in the 5,000 meters, a program record for UIS. She has also posted a program record 9:35.05 in the 3,000 meters, the event in which she won her first Great Lakes Valley Conference indoor track title, showcasing both her endurance and ability to compete at a high level. She was also named USTFCCCA All-Region in both events this season.

The national championship field features several of Division II's top distance runners, including Tristian Spence of Adams State, who owns the top time in the nation this season at 15:50 and won the 5,000-meter title at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in spring 2025. Also in the field are Emily LaMena and Grace Strongman of Colorado School of Mines, both of whom have run near the 16-minute mark this season. Other top competitors include Lauren Kiley from Grand Valley State and Allison Kuzma of Hillsdale, two runners Miller-Ross has faced frequently across her career.

Miller-Ross finished 10th in the event at last year's indoor national championships to earn second-team All-America honors. This year, she will look to move into the top eight to secure first-team All-America status.
The 2026 championships will be held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach. The indoor championships return to Virginia Beach for the first time since 2023 and the second time overall.
