Illinois Springfield men's basketball (10-4, 6-0 GLVC) defeated Quincy (7-7, 2-4 GLVC) 91-60 on Thursday night at Pepsi Arena, pulling away in the second half by outscoring the Hawks 49-30. With the win, the Prairie Stars claimed the BOS Traveling Cup, bringing it back to Springfield.
The victory also marked the first time in program history that UIS has opened GLVC play 6-0, as the Prairie Stars remain tied with Upper Iowa atop the conference standings.
UIS opened the game with efficient offense, scoring inside and sharing the ball well.
Alex Stell scored on a layup to open the scoring, and the Prairie Stars totaled eight assists in the first quarter.
Donaven Younger's layup at 9:19 gave UIS a 10-point lead for the first time at 20-10, and
Isaiah Davis made a three under seven minutes to play in the half for a 28-13 lead, the largest in the early going.
Quincy started 1-for-5 from the field but gradually increased its efficiency over the half, attempting to use the three-point shot to mount a comeback. While the early perimeter attempts did not pay off, the Hawks stayed within roughly 10 points until UIS led 42-30 at halftime.
The Prairie Stars took control early in the second half with a decisive run sparked by
Jordan Rice, who scored 13 points in the period, including two three-pointers in the opening four minutes. UIS shot 18-for-29 from the field and added nine assists in the half, while Quincy continued to try leveraging the three-point shot to get back in the game.
UIS extended the margin with consistent scoring in the paint and contributions from the bench.
Lyncoln Koester had several timely baskets later in the second half, and
Donaven Younger made a pair of free throws with 5:30 to play that gave UIS an 80-50 lead. The Prairie Stars closed the game with a dominant second half to secure the 91-60 win.
Rice led UIS with 18 points and four assists.
Isaiah Davis scored 12 points on four three-pointers and added seven rebounds, while
Adidas Davis also scored 12 points, hitting all four of his three-point attempts.
Jorden Williams recorded seven assists, and Younger finished with 11 points, making seven of nine free throws.
UIS improved to 10-4 overall and 6-0 in GLVC play, while Quincy fell to 7-7 overall and 2-4 in conference action. The Prairie Stars shot 61.8% from the field and made 11 three-pointers on the night.
"We are very excited to have the BOS Cup back in Springfield!" said head coach
Matt Brock. "I thought we did a really nice job defensively in the first half and carried that over into the second half. Our bench came in and gave us a big lift."

UIS looks ahead to a 3:00 p.m. game Saturday at Truman State. The Bulldogs are 5‑9 overall and 2‑4 in GLVC play after Thursday's 73‑62 loss to McKendree.
