The UIS women's tennis team opened its spring season on the road Saturday with a 6-1 loss at Tiffin.
UIS picked up its lone point in singles play after dropping the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles,
Niamh Grogan and
Ema Norma Bordean earned a 7-5 victory, but Tiffin claimed wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to secure the first point.
In singles action,
Cristina Mendoza Romero delivered a strong performance at No. 1 singles, winning a tightly contested match 7-6 (5), 6-4. Tiffin claimed the remaining five singles matches.
Ema Norma Bordean battled through three sets at No. 2 singles, falling 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Grogan dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 3, while
Alisha Deogaonkar was edged 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4. At No. 5,
Jane Carter came up short in a competitive match, losing 6-1, 7-5.
Maria Garcia Gama rounded out singles play with a 6-0, 7-6 (2) loss at No. 6.
The Stars continue their spring-opening road trip on Sunday with a match at Findlay.
