Illinois Springfield Earns 84-61 Win Over Southwest Baptist

Illinois Springfield (11-6, 7-2 GLVC) secured an 84-61 victory over Southwest Baptist (9-8, 3-6 GLVC) on Saturday at TRAC. The Prairie Stars made 13 three-pointers and tallied 22 assists in the win.

Illinois Springfield establishing an early advantage as Britton Dutton hit a three-pointer just 23 seconds into the first half, assisted by Jordan Rice, who went on to record 10 assists. The early basket set the tone for a strong offensive performance, highlighted by a 14-point first-half contribution from Dutton, including another three-pointer at the 6:47 mark. UIS consistently widened its lead through efficient shooting and strong ball movement, recording 14 assists and 21 rebounds in the half. Southwest Baptist struggled to keep pace, trailing 47-29 at halftime.

The Prairie Stars opened the second half with another offensive surge, highlighted by Isaiah Davis' three-pointer at 18:45 to extend the lead. Alex Stell and Tye Banks added key layups to push the lead to 54-31 by the 18:17 mark. The Prairie Stars maintained momentum with continued efficient shooting, including another three-pointer from Dutton at 17:21 to make it 57-33.

Strong defensive play from the Prairie Stars, combined with Banks' scoring, further solidified the lead. A steal and fastbreak layup by Rice at 9:03 kept Illinois Springfield comfortably ahead. Despite efforts by SBU to cut into the deficit, the Prairie Stars outscored the Bearcats 37-32 in the second half to secure the 84-61 victory.

Banks led UIS with 21 points on 10-of-11 shooting from the field and added seven rebounds. Dutton followed with a career-high 20 points, including four three-pointers, and two assists. Davis also scored 20 points, connecting on six shots from beyond the arc, while Rice totaled 10 assists to go along with five points and three rebounds.

Illinois Springfield improved to 11-6 overall and 7-2 in GLVC play. Southwest Baptist dropped to 9-8 overall and 3-6 in conference action.

"It was a very strong effort on both ends," head coach Matt Brock said. "Our defensive pressure set the tone early, and we really shared the basketball well. I thought our depth wore them down."
