The Illinois Springfield men's track and field team opens its indoor season Saturday at the Bob Eubanks Open, hosted by Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich.
UIS will feature a strong contingent of middle- and long-distance runners throughout the meet, beginning with a trio entered in the men's 800 meters.
Chase Cooley,
River Derby and
Finn Loken are all set to compete as the Prairie Stars open the indoor schedule.
A group of five will appear in the men's mile, including
Lucas Naugle and
Matt Padilla, as UIS looks to establish early-season momentum in one of the meet's most competitive events.
The Prairie Stars will be heavily represented in the men's 3,000 meters, with 10 runners entered. The group includes freshman
Charlie Borlin, one of the GLVC's top performers during the cross country season, along with experienced returners
Daniel Giacomini, Dominic Cantarini,
Colin Graham,
Brock Loftus,
Owen Whelan and others.
Several of UIS' top distance runners are scheduled to compete in the event, including All-GLVC cross country honorees Padilla, Graham and Loftus, providing a strong early test against regional competition.
The meet will be streamed live on FloCollege, with live statistics available through Fairchild Sports Timing. Links for both can be found on the UIS track and field schedule online.
