Illinois Springfield women's basketball (5-10, 2-5 GLVC) fell to Truman State (8-7, 5-2 GLVC), 64-53, at Pershing Arena on Saturday afternoon despite forcing 12 steals. Truman State capitalized with 23 points off turnovers and maintained a scoring advantage in the paint.
The Bulldogs established an inside presence early, opening the game with 14 first-quarter points in the paint. Emajin McCallop scored on a layup and a tip-in as TSU built an early lead. UIS struggled offensively, shooting 3-for-14 in the quarter. A three-pointer by
Kennedy Osterman with 4:16 remaining cut the deficit to five, but the Prairie Stars trailed 14-7 at the end of the period.
TSU pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring UIS 21-6. McCallop scored multiple baskets in the paint, including a fast-break layup at 7:41, while the Bulldogs capitalized on nine UIS turnovers to score 12 points. A three-pointer by Morgan Miller extended the lead, and despite a jumper by
Kayla Rice in the final minute, TSU took a 35-13 advantage into halftime.
UIS responded with its best quarter of the game in the third, outscoring TSU 20-10. Osterman opened the scoring with a three-pointer, followed by a layup from
Allison Wheeler. Rice added a fast-break layup and a three-pointer, and
Molly Knight knocked down a three-pointer in the closing seconds to cut the deficit to 45-33 entering the fourth quarter.
TSU maintained control in the final period, opening the quarter with a layup and a three-pointer from Braylee Rogers. UIS outscored the Bulldogs 20-19 in the fourth, including a late three-pointer from Rice, but could not overcome the deficit.
Rice led UIS with 22 points, hitting four three-pointers and recording four steals. Knight finished with nine points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting, while Wheeler added eight points, six rebounds and three steals. Osterman chipped in eight points and two assists.

UIS returns home next week for two conference games, hosting Rockhurst on Thursday for Teacher Appreciation Night before welcoming Southwest Baptist on Saturday on Faith and Family Day.
