UIS Women’s Soccer Falls 3-0 to West Alabama

The Illinois Springfield women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to West Alabama on Sunday afternoon, falling to 0-1-1 after the opening week of the season.

The Tigers struck early, breaking through in the 13th minute on a goal from Selis Demirci. Tiana Trahan doubled the lead just after halftime, and Emily Callahan added an insurance goal in the 68th minute.

UWA held a 12-6 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Addison Wittenberg registered two shots on target to lead UIS, while Taytum Scarborough added another attempt on goal.

Makenna Miller started in net for UIS and made three saves in the opening 45 minutes, allowing one goal. Gigi Yurevich played the second half, recording one save.

"It was a tough match today. Credit to West Alabama for executing their system," said head coach Scott Myers. "A couple of unlucky bounces and some mental mistakes held us back, but I'm proud of the fight in our players. We're excited to get back to training and take advantage of the quick turnaround with Ohio Dominican midweek."
