The Illinois Springfield women's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2025 season on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Ohio Dominican 2-0 at Kiwanis Stadium.

"Really proud of the win today, and credit to Ohio Dominican for putting up a great fight for the entire game," head coach Scott Myers said. "I'm proud of our girls for coming out of halftime, making a couple of adjustments, and playing with a bit of a chip on their shoulder with something to prove. I'm especially excited to see goals from McKenna Gahagan and Maddie Festerling. We're looking forward to building on this momentum and getting started on Sunday with Senior Day."

The opening 45 minutes saw limited chances for either side, with play largely contained in the middle third. Both teams registered no more than three shots before the break. Gigi Yurevich started in goal for the Prairie Stars and recorded two saves to keep the match scoreless at halftime.

UIS broke through shortly after the restart. In the 49th minute, McKenna Gahagan converted a corner kick to give the Stars the lead. Madelyn Festerling then doubled the advantage with a low strike in the 63rd minute.

Makenna Miller took over in goal for the second half, but faced little action as UIS maintained control and secured the clean sheet.

The win improves UIS to 1-1-1 all-time against Ohio Dominican and gives the Prairie Stars their first victory of the year.
