UIS Women’s Soccer Set to Open 2025 Season on the Road

9/4/2025 3:00:00 PM

The UIS women's soccer team is set to open its 2025 season with a pair of road matches, aiming to make a strong statement during its opening weekend in Owensboro, Ky. The Prairie Stars will face Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday, Sept. 5, at 7:00 p.m., followed by a matchup against West Alabama on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 12:00 p.m. Both games will be played at Panther Field on Kentucky Wesleyan's campus.

Returning for her senior season, last year's leading scorer Katelynn Ward, who tallied seven goals in 2024, will be a key player to watch. Alongside her, a group of experienced seniors including Dani Auble, Carolyne Mathenia, Taytum Scarborough, and Anna Schurz are expected to provide leadership and depth. The squad also welcomes a promising group of newcomers, including two transfers and eight freshmen, adding fresh talent to the lineup.

Kentucky Wesleyan
The Panthers, now 0-1, opened their season Thursday evening against West Alabama, falling 1-0 in a defensive battle. Kentucky Wesleyan finished 5-13 in 2024 and competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC). UIS will need to navigate KWC's disciplined defense while looking to create and capitalize on opportunities in transition.

West Alabama
The Tigers started the season 1-0 after Thursday's win over Kentucky Wesleyan. West Alabama went 3-9-3 in 2024 and competes in the Gulf South Conference. UIS will face a team eager to build early-season momentum and will need to control West Alabama's attacking threats to secure a victory.

Fans unable to attend the matches in person can follow all the action live on FloSports, live statistics are also available.

The season opener provides an opportunity for UIS to set the tone for the year ahead.
