The Illinois Springfield men's tennis team saw a busy day of singles and doubles action at the ITA Regional on Saturday. Several Prairie Stars advanced in their respective flights, while others faced tough early-round challenges.
Flight A Singles:
Pablo Herrera fell in a tight round-of-64 match against Northwood's Sergio Lopez Guillen, 3-6, 6-4, [4-10]. Herrera rebounded in the consolation round of 32, defeating Walsh's Nicolas Strohle 6-0, earning a bye into the round of 16. He will face an athlete from Maryville on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
Antonio Ayerbe Streubel dropped both his matches, losing 6-1, 6-0 to Ferris State's Praneel Pichika and 6-0, 6-4 to Purdue Northwest's Samuel Dickson.
Flight B Singles:
Lin En Tan advanced past Roosevelt's DeMille Scarabello 6-4, 7-5 in the round of 64 and defeated Raphael Valente 6-4, 6-3 in the round of 32. Tan will continue in the round of 16 on Sunday against a Wayne State opponent at 8:30 a.m.
Flight C Singles:
Kai Van-Roon moved on with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Quincy's Alvaro Rueda and will face a Tiffin opponent in the round of 16 Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
Lukas Pieringer (6-4, 6-6) and
Luke Pennington (1-6, 1-6) were eliminated in the round of 32.
Miran Todorovic pulled out a dramatic 7-6, 2-6, [10-6] win over Patricio Jimenez Alcocer of Quincy but does not advance in singles.
Flight D Singles:
Colton Pazdera fell 7-5, 6-2 to Davenport's Kameron Nichols and will not continue in singles.
Doubles:
Luke Pennington and
Colton Pazdera won 8-4 against a duo from Michigan Tech in Flight C. They will play Rockhurst's duo of Dylan Rainwater and Andres Sahagun on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Additional doubles matches were ongoing late into Saturday evening, with several Prairie Stars still competing across flights. Results will continue to unfold into Sunday.
