The Illinois Springfield men's cross country team heads north this weekend for the Lucian Rosa Invite, hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside at the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis. The meet will bring together top-level NCAA Division II competition, highlighted by key Midwest Region matchups. The men's championship race is scheduled for 10:15 a.m., followed by an open race at 11:45 a.m., as entries are limited in both the men's and women's championship events.
UIS, ranked No. 28 nationally and No. 6 in the Midwest Region, will see its first test of the season against a deep field that includes eight nationally ranked programs. Among the headliners in the men's 8K championship race are No. 2 Colorado School of Mines, No. 3 Adams State, No. 4 Grand Valley State, and No. 6 Lee, along with other regionally ranked challengers such as Saginaw Valley State, Cedarville, and Wayne State (Mich.).
UIS won't see any ranked GLVC opponents this weekend, with Lewis—the league's only other regionally ranked team—absent from the field. The Prairie Stars will focus on delivering fast times and a competitive team finish against the strongest field they have faced this fall.
UW-Parkside's nationally renowned course winds through rolling and wooded terrain between Kenosha and Racine. The site will also host the NCAA Midwest Regional in November, drawing a wide range of teams eager for a championship preview.
