UIS Women’s Golf Goes West for Kansas City Cup

9/21/2025 5:15:00 PM

The UIS women's golf team is set to compete in William Jewell's Kansas City Cup on Monday and Tuesday at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Mo.

The event features a smaller field comprised entirely of GLVC opponents, including Maryville, McKendree, Truman State, William Jewell, and UIS. It will serve as another key fall test as the Prairie Stars continue preparing for larger regional tournaments later this season.

UIS will field a lineup of Elaine Grant, Lia Rody, Valentina Torrealba, Yi-Ting Hsieh, and Ira Joshi, while newcomer Fizreen Ahmadfadzir will compete as an individual.

Last Time Out
The Prairie Stars are coming off a strong performance at the Dan Salisbury Memorial Collegiate Invitational, highlighted by Elaine Grant's second career tournament victory. Grant posted rounds of 74, 74, and 77 for a 225 total, winning a two-hole playoff over Maryville's Fernanda Diaz-Pizarro. Grant's consistency under pressure proved decisive as she sealed the individual title.

As a team, UIS finished third out of seven GLVC programs with a 961 (+97). The Stars opened the tournament well and battled with Maryville throughout before ultimately being edged by two strokes. McKendree won the event at 940 (+76).

Valentina Torrealba added stability to the UIS lineup, shooting 81-82-81 for a 244 total, one of the most consistent cards in the field. Lia Rody showed bright moments with an opening 76 and finished with an overall 247, while Ira Joshi (252) and Yi-Ting Hsieh (254) rounded out the scoring lineup. Ahmadfadzir, competing individually, posted a 295.
