Men’s Soccer Kicks Off Conference Slate with Senior Day

9/13/2025 2:08:00 PM

UIS men's soccer will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday before its 2:30 p.m. match against William Jewell. The contest marks the Prairie Stars' first Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) game of the 2025 season.

Illinois Springfield (1-1-1)
UIS enters conference play following a 3-1 midweek win over Purdue Northwest that closed out its non-conference schedule. The match was scoreless until the 75th minute, when PNW broke through with a goal. The Prairie Stars answered quickly, as freshmen Jack Hudson and Aaron Sachse connected on back-to-back set pieces—Hudson scoring twice off Sachse throw-ins. Corne Boshoff converted a late penalty kick to seal the victory.

Through three matches, Boshoff has scored twice from the spot, Hudson has two goals, and Adam Knaze has added one. Sachse leads the team with two assists, while UIS continues to develop chemistry between its young players and returning leaders. In goal, Landon Amick has played every minute this season, recording 13 saves and allowing five goals.

William Jewell (1-2)
The Cardinals began the year with 4-1 losses to Rockhurst and Newman before defeating Harding 2-0 on Friday. Against Harding, Eliott Labeth scored in the 13th minute off a cross from Alexis Ibarra, and Kaleb Fannin doubled the lead just after halftime on an assist from Zach Nichols.

Jewell has had four different goal scorers through three matches, with Fannin also contributing an assist. Goalkeeper Umberto DiCarlo has started all three contests, making four saves with a 2.40 goals-against average, while Aldo Bryant has also seen time in net.

Last season, the Cardinals finished 5-8-4, including a 1-1 draw against UIS on Sept. 15.

Senior Day
Following the 12:00 p.m. women's match, UIS will honor its men's soccer seniors, expected around 2:00 p.m. The 2025 senior class includes Mitch Olenick, Josh Conrad, Jaime Diaz, Landon Amick, Corne Boshoff, Nathan Oba-Okusanya, Edoardo Pinna, and Ihnat Striletskyi. UIS Athletics thanks these athletes and their families for their dedication and contributions to the program.
