The UIS women's tennis team begins its five-match GLVC slate this weekend, starting with Missouri-St. Louis on Friday in St. Louis. The Prairie Stars will then face Maryville on Saturday, with both matches scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
Illinois Springfield (0-7)
The Prairie Stars are looking to break into the win column as they open conference play. In their most recent match on March 22, UIS fell 5-2 to Drury, but saw singles victories from
Niamh Grogan and
Cristina Mendoza Romero. The top two doubles matches were tightly contested.
Freshman
Ema Norma Bordean has made an early impact, going 4-3 in singles play so far.
Carmen Llopis Fabra has held down the No. 1 singles spot with a 3-4 record.
Missouri-St. Louis (7-4)
The UMSL Tritons come in with a 7-4 overall record, including a 1-3 mark in non-conference matches against opponents from the GLVC West. They have a win over Quincy and losses to Rockhurst, Southwest Baptist, and Drury.
Morgan Lint has led the way in singles play with an impressive 11-1 record, followed by Hannah Tse at 8-4 and Giuliana Cunza at 7-6. In doubles, the pairings of Lint/Favaron and Tse/Lopez are each 8-5 on the season.
Maryville (6-5)
The Saints enter the weekend on a two-match winning streak after a 5-2 road win over No. 21 William Woods and a 6-1 home victory against Ouachita Baptist. Against GLVC West teams in non-conference play, Maryville is 2-3, with wins over William Jewell and Quincy, and losses to Southwest Baptist, Drury, and Rockhurst.
Isabella Alvarez leads the Saints with a 10-2 singles record, followed closely by Carolina Velazquez at 9-2.
