Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

UIS Battles to the End but Falls Short on Senior Day, 81-73

The Prairie Stars couldn't hold off Rockhurst down the stretch, falling 81-73 on Senior Day at TRAC. Max Kunnert led UIS with 15 points, while Jack Weber added 14 points and 7 rebounds in his final game.

"We went into halftime down seven after struggling to guard the roll man and giving up some tough three-pointers," said Coach Matt Brock. "In the second half, turnovers and putting them on the free-throw line too often hurt us. Despite the outcome, I couldn't be more proud of our seniors. They have been instrumental in transforming this program and elevating UIS basketball to new heights. We will truly miss these five men, both on and off the court!"

Game Summary
  • The game opened with a fast pace as Rockhurst built an early 10-3 lead, but UIS responded with a three-pointer from Kunnert and a layup by Tye Banks to cut the deficit.
  • Rockhurst, however, continued to attack inside, finishing the half shooting 47.4% from the field. UIS trailed 43-35 at halftime, with Kunnert and Khalil Ross combining for five three-pointers to keep the Prairie Stars in it.
  • The Prairie Stars came out firing in the second half, tying the game at 62 all.
  • Rockhurst responded with a 9-2 run, fueled by free throws and second-chance points, to regain control. UIS struggled at the line, shooting just 56.3% from the free throw line, while Rockhurst capitalized with a 15-of-21 mark from the stripe in the second half.
  • Despite a late three-pointer from Kunnert, Rockhurst sealed the win at the free-throw line in the final minute.
  • Max Kunnert scored 15 points, including three three-pointers, Jack Weber and Khalil Ross each scored 14.
UIS closes the season at 12-16 overall and 7-13 in GLVC play, with the senior class leaving behind a strong legacy of leadership.
