UIS Women’s Basketball Returns from Break for Conference Matchup vs. UIndy

12/30/2025 3:00:00 PM

The UIS women's basketball team returns to action on Friday afternoon, hosting the Indianapolis Greyhounds at TRAC in a 4:00 p.m. GLVC matchup as conference play resumes.

Illinois Springfield (4-8, 1-3 GLVC)

UIS enters the new year already nearing its 2024–25 win total and will look for its fifth victory of the season on Friday. The Prairie Stars' lone conference win came in dominant fashion on Dec. 1, a 75-49 victory over William Jewell.

The Prairie Stars rank sixth in the GLVC in scoring offense at 68.5 points per game and lead the conference in three-point shooting percentage at 39.4%, a mark that ranks third nationally in NCAA Division II. UIS has relied heavily on its perimeter shooting and is the only GLVC team to surpass 100 made three-pointers this season, connecting on 104 triples—20 more than the next closest team, Lincoln (84).

Indianapolis (1-10, 0-3 GLVC)
The Greyhounds have faced a challenging schedule to open the season and remain winless in conference play following a road loss at Lewis and home defeats against Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis. Through three GLVC games, UIndy has been held to an average of 46 points per contest by conference opponents.

Despite recent struggles, Indianapolis enters Friday coming off a win, defeating Ohio Dominican 75-59 on Dec. 18. Patricia Chikamba and Graycie Poe each scored 18 points in that victory as the Greyhounds shot 51.9% from the field. Chikamba leads UIndy in scoring this season with 163 total points, averaging 14.8 points per game.

Indianapolis was picked 11th in the GLVC preseason poll, just ahead of UIS at 12th. In the all-time series, the Prairie Stars trail 6–13, including a two-point overtime loss at home last season after UIS had won two straight meetings in the series.

Game Day Promotion
Friday's GLVC doubleheader celebrates the Love of Basketball. Fans are encouraged to wear their favorite basketball jerseys and cheer on the Prairie Stars and Greyhounds from the TRAC bleachers.

GLVC Outlook
Early in conference play, the GLVC standings remain closely grouped. UMSL (4-0), Upper Iowa (3-0), and Drury (3-0) are still unbeaten in conference play. Maryville sits at 3-1, followed by McKendree and Truman State at 2-1. With 16 conference games remaining, UIS has ample opportunity to climb the standings and work its way into the GLVC Tournament picture.
