As part of UIS Athletics' 15 Years of NCAA Division II Membership celebration, the department is highlighting 15 standout teams and 15 standout student-athletes who have shaped the program's Division II era. Each week, UIS will feature one team and one player, honoring the accomplishments, championship moments and legacy-building performances that have defined Prairie Stars Athletics.

Talon Supak, a member of the UIS men's golf team from 2014-17, became a trailblazer for Prairie Stars golf and the program as a whole. Supak was the first UIS golfer to compete in an NCAA Regional in 2016, where he won the Midwest Super Regional to advance to the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship — a historic first for any UIS athlete or team.

In 2016, Supak finished the GLVC Championship as the top Prairie Star golfer, carding rounds of 71-80-69 in stroke play to tie for 14th place. During team semifinals, he was the lone Prairie Star to record a point, shooting a 4-under-par 68, though UIS fell to eventual GLVC champion UMSL. At the NCAA Regional, Supak shot 70-71-77 (218) to win medalist honors, earning a spot in the national championship, where he carded 75-76-75 (226) to complete his first NCAA Championship appearance.

Supak's career continued to flourish in 2017. He finished second at the GLVC Championship, shooting 68-74-72 (214) to help UIS place fifth as a team. At the NCAA Regional, Supak posted rounds of 69-70-64 (203) to tie for fourth. His final-round 64 set an 18-hole school record, his 36-hole total of 139 (-5) was a UIS best, and his 54-hole total of 203 shattered his own previous school record of 213 (-3) from 2016. A near-perfect round put him in contention to qualify for the NCAA Championship for a second straight year, but he finished tied for fourth, just two strokes shy of a top-two finish needed to advance individually.

Over his career, Supak was a three-time All-GLVC selection and the UIS Male Athlete of the Year in 2014-15, cementing his legacy as one of the most decorated student-athletes in Prairie Stars history and establishing a standard of excellence for future golfers at UIS.
