UIS Earns Presidents’ Award for Academic Excellence

12/10/2025 3:00:00 PM

For the second consecutive year, the University of Illinois Springfield has earned the Presidents' Award for Academic Excellence, presented to Division II institutions that achieve an Academic Success Rate (ASR) of 90 percent or higher.

UIS is one of just 43 Division II schools to receive the honor this year and one of only three GLVC institutions—alongside Maryville and Rockhurst—to be recognized. UIS is also the only DII institution in Illinois to earn the Presidents' Award this year.

Each year, the NCAA evaluates Division II institutions using the ASR, which measures the percentage of student-athletes who graduate within six years of initial enrollment. The Division II ASR includes transfers into a school and removes those who transfer out in good academic standing, offering a complete picture of graduation outcomes. It also accounts for more than 30,000 non-scholarship student-athletes across the division.

UIS has demonstrated remarkable consistency in its academic performance, posting a 90 percent ASR in each of the last two years. The program has steadily improved its ASR for eight consecutive years, rising from 74 percent in the 2011-12 cohort to its current level of excellence.

UIS continues to demonstrate consistency in academic excellence after also receiving the award last year.
