Women’s Cross Country Set for NCAA Midwest Regional in Kenosha

11/6/2025 11:30:00 AM

The postseason continues this weekend as the Illinois Springfield women's cross country team heads to Kenosha, Wisconsin, for the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship. The race will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 10:00 a.m. at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course, hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside.

The top three finishing teams in each region will earn automatic bids to the NCAA Division II National Championships. Additional team and individual bids will be determined early next week by the selection committee based on results from regional meets across the country. Top individual finishers who are not part of qualifying teams will also have a chance to advance.

UIS will field a seasoned, balanced squad led by senior Madelyn Miller-Ross, the 2025 GLVC Champion and Runner of the Year and a 2024 All-Region honoree. She'll be joined by fellow senior Kaleigh Inniss, who is also a two-time All-GLVC honoree in cross country, and Marissa Roggensack, who has been a steady top-five finisher throughout the fall. Lauren McBride, Allison Thompson, Mackenzie Billard and Josslyn Gaona round out a deep squad capable of another record-setting team performance.

UIS has enjoyed one of the most successful seasons in program history. The Prairie Stars made their first-ever appearance in the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Top-10, reaching No. 8 mid-season. Although they briefly fell out of the rankings, the Prairie Stars responded with a third-place team finish at the GLVC Championships, marking the best conference result in program history.

Led by Miller-Ross, the Prairie Stars are aiming to continue that momentum into the regional stage. UIS' best-ever regional finish came last year with a 13th-place result, and the team now looks to break into the top 10 for the first time in program history.

This weekend will serve as a key test of how UIS and the GLVC stack up against top competition from the GLIAC and G-MAC conferences.
