Registration is now open for the UIS-BOS Turkey Trot 5K on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025! Join us on the UIS campus for a fun-filled race to support the UIS Cross Country and Track & Field Program. 

The race begins at 8:00 a.m. at The Recreation and Athletic Center (TRAC) and welcomes runners, walkers, and families to kick off Thanksgiving Day with a fun and active tradition.

Participants can choose between the in-person 5K or a virtual option, both priced at $35. All registration fees and donations directly support the UIS Cross Country and Track & Field programs.

Early registration is encouraged — those who sign up by Nov. 14 will be guaranteed a long-sleeve Turkey Trot T-shirt.

Packet pickup will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 26 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., and again on race morning from 6:00 to 8:00 a.m. at TRAC.

Head Coach Emmons King said the UIS-BOS Turkey Trot has become a Thanksgiving tradition for many local families and continues to grow every year.

"We're so excited to welcome the Springfield community back to UIS for our annual Turkey Trot," King said. "Last year, we celebrated with more than 1,000 participants, and we're already on track for our biggest year yet.

This is a family event, from strollers to pets, everyone is welcome. The Turkey Trot is our program's main fundraiser, and it allows us to compete at high-level meets, provide quality gear for our athletes, and ensure their student-athlete experience is one they'll remember forever. We couldn't be more thankful for the continued support from the Springfield community and beyond, and we hope to see everyone on November 27th."
