As part of UIS Athletics' 15 Years of NCAA Division II Membership celebration, the department is highlighting 15 standout teams and 15 standout student-athletes who have shaped the program's Division II era. Each week, UIS will feature one team and one player, honoring the accomplishments, championship moments, and legacy-building performances that have defined Prairie Stars Athletics.
The first individual to be honored is Michael Fakuade, a dominant presence for the UIS men's basketball program during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons. Over his two-year tenure, Fakuade became the UIS career leader in blocks (156) and rebound average (10.3), ranking eighth in career points per game (13.8). He also holds the single-season records for total rebounds (278) and rebounds per game (11.1).
In 2010-11, Fakuade appeared in 21 games, starting 19, and recorded multiple double-doubles while establishing himself as a defensive force. His senior season, 2011-12, was a breakout year in which he averaged 14.5 points, 10.96 rebounds, and 3.46 blocks per game, including a UIS record of seven blocks in a single game against UMSL in February 2012. He ranked third in the nation in blocked shots and posted multiple 20-point games in his career.
Fakuade's consistent defensive dominance and scoring ability earned him First Team All-GLVC honors as a senior, Second Team as a junior, and Second Team All-Region recognition. His performance set a new standard for Prairie Stars men's basketball and makes him a fitting first individual honoree in UIS Athletics' Division II 15th Anniversary celebration.
