The Illinois Springfield men's soccer team heads west for another GLVC road weekend, facing No. 20 Lincoln on Friday night before wrapping up the trip Sunday afternoon at Missouri-St. Louis. UIS looks to build on a productive offensive stretch after scoring two goals in each of last weekend's matches.
Illinois Springfield (2-6-2, 1-5-1 GLVC)
UIS showed positive signs last weekend, finding the net multiple times in both games. The Prairie Stars earned a 2-2 draw against Drury after rallying from a two-goal deficit, with
Jack Hudson and
Corne Boshoff providing the second-half goals — including the equalizer in the 90th minute. Against Missouri S&T, UIS led twice but couldn't hold off a late push in a 3-2 loss.
Offensively, the Stars have produced across the lineup.
Robin Lemke Bergseth leads UIS with five goals and two assists, followed by
Jack Hudson with four goals and
Corne Boshoff with three.
Spencer Martin (1 goal, 2 assists) and others have also chipped in key contributions.
Goalkeeper
Edoardo Pinna has anchored the defense and served as a play initiator, using his distribution to spark counterattacks and connect with the forwards — an element that has shaped the Stars' offensive rhythm as of late.
No. 20 Lincoln (6-0-2, 4-0-2 GLVC)
Lincoln remains unbeaten through eight games, coming off a 1-0 win over Maryville and a 1-1 draw with McKendree. The Blue Tigers have not been shut out this season and average 2.25 goals per game while allowing just 0.88.
Kevin Maitland ranks seventh in the GLVC in goals per game, scoring five times in eight matches while leading the league in game-winners. Hadri Lopez has been a steady playmaker with five assists.
Goalkeeper Vincent Osei sits among the GLVC leaders in every category, including second in both save percentage (.850) and saves per game (4.86). His 34 total saves are the most among the league's top-10 keepers.
Missouri-St. Louis (2-3-4, 1-2-3 GLVC)
Sunday's contest at UMSL offers a competitive test as the Tritons have been involved in several tight, low-scoring matches this fall. They enter the weekend following a 5-1 loss to crosstown rival Maryville.
Scoring has been balanced for the Tritons, with Melo Mensah, Tommy Wortham, and Alexander Ramirez Aoueisseach recording two goals. Mike Banasik ranks among the GLVC top ten in game-winning goals, while assists have come from several contributors.
Freshman Will Winkler has started the last two matches in goal and made five saves against Maryville, though Jack Franklin has played the majority of minutes this season.
