UIS Men’s Soccer to Close Season on the Road

10/29/2025 12:00:00 PM

The Illinois Springfield men's soccer team will wrap up its 2025 campaign this weekend with a pair of road matches at Lewis and Upper Iowa. The Prairie Stars, who are not in contention for this year's GLVC Tournament, played once last weekend, falling 2-0 at home to Indianapolis.

Illinois Springfield (2-10-3, 1-9-2 GLVC)
UIS had an eventful start in Sunday's game against UIndy, as goalkeeper Landon Amick was issued a red card in the opening minutes. Backup keeper Edoardo Pinna entered and delivered a strong performance, saving the ensuing free kick and recording six total saves in relief. The Greyhounds scored twice in the first half and managed the lead from there, as UIS played with 10 men for 84 minutes.

Senior Corne Boshoff led the attack with an extended shift up top, logging 73 minutes. UIS has spread its scoring production this season, led by Robin Lemke Bergseth and Jack Hudson with five goals apiece, and Boshoff with four.

The GLVC Tournament field is nearly set, with Rockhurst, Lincoln, McKendree, Missouri S&T, and Indianapolis having secured spots. Drury, Quincy, and Maryville are likely to fill the remaining three berths, leaving UIS, Lewis, and Upper Iowa outside of the postseason picture but looking to finish the year strong.

UIS has been competitive historically with both weekend opponents, holding a 12-14-2 all-time record against Lewis and a 2-2 mark versus Upper Iowa, including a 2-0 record since UIU joined the GLVC.

Lewis (4-5-7, 2-4-2 GLVC)
Lewis, an 11-win and NCAA Tournament team last season, has struggled to replicate that form in 2025. The Flyers' two GLVC wins have come against Truman State and UMSL. Last weekend, they tied Maryville 1-1 before falling 3-0 to McKendree.

Lewis averages just over one goal per game, while its opponents average 1.19. The Flyers take more total and on-target shots than their opponents but have had trouble finishing opportunities.

The Flyers' top scorers are Mikey Revell with four goals and three assists, Roman Hernandez with three goals and four assists, and Noah Kawaguchi with two goals and three assists. Goalkeeper Jeremiah Higgins has handled recent starts, recording nine saves over last weekend's matches.

Upper Iowa (4-9-2, 3-7-2 GLVC)
The Peacocks, one of the league's newer members, earned a 1-0 win over Maryville on Sunday behind a goal from Timur Nagy after a narrow 3-2 loss to UMSL on Friday.

Upper Iowa has shown growth late in the season, earning GLVC victories over Lewis, Southwest Baptist, and Maryville. The Peacocks are led offensively by Alejandro Sanchez and Nagy, who each have five goals.

Goalkeeper Noah Nymark-Pedersen anchors the defense, totaling 45 saves this season, including three per game last weekend.
