The Illinois Springfield men's soccer team returns home this weekend for two GLVC matchups. The Prairie Stars face Drury on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before hosting Missouri S&T on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
On Friday, UIS will celebrate Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night at soccer. UIS faculty and staff members invited by student-athletes will be recognized before each game. This tradition gives student-athletes the chance to thank professors and campus staff who have made an impact on their lives.
On Sunday, UIS will host its Cancer Awareness games. Ribbons will be available for purchase to support cancer recognition and awareness, all proceeds go to the
Tessa Sutton Foundation.
Illinois Springfield (2-5-1, 1-4 GLVC)
UIS dropped two close 2-1 decisions last weekend against Rockhurst and Southwest Baptist. Against Rockhurst,
Robin Lemke Bergseth opened the scoring with a strike from 16 yards out, but the Hawks rallied with two second-half goals. At SBU, Lemke Bergseth again found the net to equalize, but the Bearcats delivered the game-winner on a corner in the 75th minute.
Lemke Bergseth and
Jack Hudson lead UIS with three goals each. Hudson has been dangerous in the air, while Lemke Bergseth has been effective on the counter.
Spencer Martin and
Aaron Sachse share the team lead with two assists apiece.
Between the posts,
Edoardo Pinna has started and finished the last three matches. He owns a .682 save percentage with 15 total saves.
Drury (1-2-4, 1-2-2 GLVC)
Drury is coming off one of its best weekends, a 2-1 comeback victory over Maryville followed by a scoreless draw with McKendree. Joe Loughnane has been the team's most consistent producer with two goals and two assists, while two others have scored twice this season.
Goalkeeper Camden Meyer has made five starts, recording a 1.57 goals-against average, .686 save percentage, and 24 total saves.
The Panthers were picked sixth in the GLVC preseason poll.
Missouri S&T (4-2-1, 2-2 GLVC)
The Miners split their matches last weekend, defeating Missouri-St. Louis 2-0 before falling 1-0 to Maryville. The UMSL win extended their home unbeaten streak, while the Maryville match featured a combined 33 shots and 10 saves between the two sides despite the low scoreline.
Joseph Sommer, Joao Vieira, and Mike Banasik pace the attack with two goals apiece. Vieira and Sommer also lead with two assists each. Goalkeeper Cavitt Bruhn has started all seven matches with a 1.29 goals-against average, 24 saves, and a .727 save percentage.
The Miners were picked 10th in the GLVC preseason poll.
GLVC Standings Outlook
The 2025 GLVC men's soccer race is tightly packed near the top. Rockhurst leads with 11 points, while Lincoln, Indianapolis, and McKendree are right behind at 10. Quincy and Maryville follow close with 9 points each.
In the middle of the table, Missouri S&T has 6 points and Drury has 5. Illinois Springfield is part of a group on 3 points along with Southwest Baptist, Truman, and William Jewell, making this weekend an important chance for the Prairie Stars to climb the standings.
