The Illinois Springfield women's cross country team posted a solid effort at the Lewis Crossover on Saturday, finishing 24th of 36 teams in one of the most competitive meets in NCAA DII cross country. The Prairie Stars recorded a top-five total time of 1:57:07, averaging 23:25 per runner, and a top-seven total of 2:47:49, with an average of 23:58, showing consistency but room for improvement in pack positioning.

Leading the team was Madelyn Miller-Ross (21:59), followed by Kaleigh Inniss (22:53), Josslyn Gaona (23:38), Marissa Roggensack (23:44), Allison Thompson (24:51), Lauren McBride (25:15), and Mackenzie Billard (25:26). While the Prairie Stars' top seven runners were spread out more than ideal, their performance kept them competitive with regional opponents.

The team finished on the heels of Maryville and within striking distance of Michigan Tech and Findlay, signaling potential for postseason success.

"Our ladies fought hard against some impressive competition this morning," said head coach Emmons King. "It was a great learning opportunity for our squad, and they will be looking to bounce back in two weeks for the conference championship."
