UIS Women’s Soccer Earns Road Win at Lincoln

The Illinois Springfield women's soccer team earned its first GLVC win of the season on Friday night, defeating Lincoln 2-0 on the road. The Prairie Stars (2-6-3, 1-5-2 GLVC) snapped a four-match losing streak behind goals from Mallory Herber and Reese Lowery.

"I am proud and happy for our players tonight," said head coach Scott Myers. "Lincoln put up a fight for all 90 minutes and gave us fits throughout the game. I thought in the second half we settled down and managed to hit more of our stride. I'm excited for Reese for scoring her first collegiate goal and for our team earning a shutout. We'll celebrate this win for the next 24 hours and then look to build on Sunday as we travel to St. Louis."

UIS wasted no time getting on the board, scoring in just the third minute. Addison Wittenberg sent a cross toward Mallory Herber, who finished just inside the left post. Anna Schurz played a major role in pushing the ball upfield to start the attack.

The Prairie Stars doubled their lead late in the half. In the 43rd minute, Dani Auble sent in a shot from the corner that deflected off the crossbar and bounced into space for Reese Lowery, who buried her first collegiate goal.

UIS took six shots in the opening half and added ten more after halftime, ending the night with nine shots on goal to Lincoln's two. Riley Lloyd, Ellie Mejia, and Schurz were among several players creating additional scoring opportunities throughout the match.
