Baseball Wins Series Against SBU After Sunday Split

The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team was able to secure another series win in their final home weekend of the regular season after splitting a doubleheader against Southwest Baptist on Sunday afternoon. The Prairie Stars move to 26-19 overall with a 17-15 record in GLVC play. The Bearcats move to 11-35 overall with an 8-24 record in conference games. 

GAME ONE (L, 6-15)

  • SBU jumped out to an early lead in the second inning on two RBI singles and a sacrifice fly

  • UIS responded with one run in the bottom of the inning as Jacyk Uehling singled to cut the deficit to 1-3

  • Southwest Baptist added two more runs in the third on a home run and another sacrifice fly

  • Ivan Dahlberg brought home a run with a single in the third 

  • The Bearcats blew the game open in the fourth, taking a 9-2 lead

  • UIS got home runs from TJ Yakimisky and Johnny Wendling in the fifth to make it 9-5

  • SBU answered right back in the sixth to push the lead to 12-5

  • SBU added three more runs in seventh to make it 15-5

  • Jacyk Uehling hit an RBI single to make it 15-6, but it was too little too late as the Bearcats held on for the win

  • Adam Lindsey (2-5) took the loss on the mound 

GAME TWO (W, 7-5)

  • SBU once again took an early lead as they plated two runs in the first inning

  • The Bearcats increased their lead to 5-0 behind two home runs

  • UIS trimmed the lead as Mark Kattula hit a home run and Ivan Dahlberg scored on a wild pitch

  • The Prairie Stars got home runs from Ivan Dahlberg and TJ Yakimisky in the fifth inning to make it a one-run contest

  • UIS tied the game in the sixth as Mack Clark hit an RBI single

  • The Stars took the lead in the eighth as Jackson Blemler singled to right field

  • UIS pushed another run across as Ivan Dahlberg grounded into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded

  • Kyle Tyler (3-0) earned the win in 6.2 innings of work in relief, only allowing 2 hits while striking out 6
