Prairie Stars Drop Tripleheader to Quincy on Friday

The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team suffered a setback against Quincy as they lost Thursday's resumed game, followed by Friday's scheduled doubleheader of seven inning games. The Prairie Stars fall to 26-22 overall with a 17-18 record in conference play. The Hawks improve to 24-25 overall with a 21-14 record in GLVC play. 

GAME ONE (L, 4-7)

  • Game One started on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. before it was halted due to inclement weather

  • Johnny Colombo got the Stars on the board first in the third inning as he blasted a homer to right field

  • Quincy responded in the bottom of the inning with a 2-run home run to take a lead

  • UIS tied the game in the fourth as Nick Melvin drove home a run with a groundout

  • The game was postponed after the top of the fifth inning and set to restart Friday morning due to inclement weather

  • QU wasted no time taking the lead back after the restart, hitting a 3-run home run to take a 5-2 lead

  • Noah Caceres earned an RBI with a groundout in the sixth to trim the Quincy lead

  • Quincy responded back with an RBI single to make it 6-3

  • Ivan Dahlberg hit an RBI double in the seventh to cut into the lead once more

  • QU added one more insurance run in the eighth with an RBI single

  • Kyle Tyler (3-1) earned his first loss of the season

GAME TWO (L, 2-6)

  • The Hawks took the lead early as they scored three runs in the first inning

  • QU scored from an RBI double, groundout, and single

  • UIS responded in the top of the second as Mack Clark hit an RBI single

  • Quincy scored one run in both the fifth and sixth innings from RBI singles to make it 6-1 Hawks

  • UIS loaded the bases in the seventh inning as they looked to make the game close

  • Brant Vanaman grounded into a fielder's choice to bring home a run, but the Stars couldn't do any more damage 

  • Gavin Wahlbrink (4-3) earned the loss as he went 6 innings

GAME THREE (L, 5-10)

  • QU once again took an early lead with a three-run first inning

  • The Hawks scored on an RBI single, double, and a fielder's choice 

  • Quincy continued to score runs in the second with an RBI single

  • QU then hit a 3-run homer to increase the lead to 7-0

  • Quincy added on to their lead in the third with an RBI double and sacrifice fly to lead 9-0

  • UIS wouldn't go down without a fight as the Stars hung a five spot in the fourth inning

  • Ty Hollandsworth started the scoring with an RBI double

  • Johnny Colombo brought home a run with a groundout to third base

  • Jacyk Uehling then tripled down the left field line bringing home Hollandsworth

  • Jackson Blemler reached on an error by the second baseman, bringing home Uehling

  • Brant Vanaman singled to center field to bring Blemler home as UIS cut into the Hawk lead

  • Quincy added an insurance run in the fifth with an RBI single to make it 10-5 in favor of QU

  • Adam Lindsey (2-6) earned the loss in Game Three
