Prairie Stars Have Strong Showing Ahead of GLVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

The UIS track & field team ended its regular season with quality performances at the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet in Allendale, Mich. on Thursday. Eight Prairie Stars entered the GLVC top-18 in their last chance of the season. GLVC athletes with top-18 marks by April 28th will automatically qualify for the GLVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. 

Top Performances
  • Jacob Hanna won the men's high jump with a 1.99 meter leap. His mark of 2.00m from earlier in the season is still the best by a GLVC athlete this spring
  • 1500m duo of Lillian Buzani and Marissa Roggensack ran respective UIS #6 and UIS #7 all-time marks
  • Ryan Jones ran the men's UIS #6 1500m mark of 3 minutes and 54 seconds while freshman Finn Loken broke into the UIS top-10 by running 4 minutes and 3 seconds
  • Niyah Udoiwod was the first Prairie Star from women's track & field to compete in the high jump in the history of the program. Her top mark of 1.52 meters will stand as the UIS school record and ranks her ninth in the current GLVC standings
  • The Prairie Stars had strong showings in the men's and women's 5,000 meter races. Madelyn Miller led the women to two new GLVC top-18 marks and four new UIS top-10 all-time marks. Cort Ross ran 14 minutes and 11 seconds, an NCAA provisional mark, while Noah Tegeler and Briar Nevills also entered the GLVC top-18 on the men's side
  • Khaniya Higginbotham entered the GLVC top-18 by running just over 60 seconds in the women's 400m

The GLVC Championships will be hosted on the campus of Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. on May 2-4. 

Last year, Missouri S&T captured its seventh men's title and third in a row with 207 points in the win, while Lewis University (146) and University of Indianapolis (79.5) finished second and third, respectively. University of Illinois Springfield (72) and Truman State University (54) rounded out the top-five teams in fourth and fifth, respectively.

On the women's side, Lewis captured its seventh consecutive GLVC title, extending its league-record total to 13 with 249 points to best runner-up Indianapolis of University (157) by 92 points. Truman (93) finished third, while Southwest Baptist (79) and Missouri S&T (72) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
