Softball Drops Pair to Parkside

The University of Illinois Springfield softball team hosted the Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers at the Springfield Invitational on Friday, falling by scores of 12-4 and 8-6.
Game One (L, 12-4)
  • The game started in the favor of the Prairie Stars when Ella Brinkley scored on a single by Malia Bender in the bottom of the first
  • Parkside put up five runs in the second inning, starting with a home run by Rylee Baetz
  • The Rangers plated five more runs on three hits in the fourth
  • Rosie Bartletti's triple was the first of four hits by the Prairie Stars in the fifth inning. Bartletti scored on a sac fly, and an RBI single by Ramsey Armstrong made it a 10-3 game
  • A two-RBI triple put Parkside up 12-3 in the sixth
  • UIS managed a run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Nyla Cooper doubled to send Rosie Bartletti across the plate, but the Stars would fall 12-4
  • Alexis Carroll fell to 4-2 with the loss
Game Two (L, 8-6)
  • UIS scored five runs on four hits and two walks for a 5-0 start to the second game of the day
  • The Rangers managed to get on the board at their next chance, scoring a run on consecutive doubles
  • Five more runs would be scored by Parkside in the top of the third. They kept it rolling for two more runs in the following inning
  • The Prairie Stars tried to get it going in the bottom of the inning, managing one unearned run before an inning-ending fielder's choice 
  • The rest of the game was scoreless on both sides
  • Taylor Zawacki is now 2-3 on the season
UIS, now 9-5 overall, continues play at its home tournament on Saturday. UIS will meet the 3-5 Hillsdale Chargers in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
