Three Prairie Stars Earn All-Conference Honors at GLVC Indoor Track & Field Championships

The University of Illinois Springfield track & field team competed at the GLVC Championships over the weekend. Three earned All-GLVC honors with top-three finishes in their respective events, including the first medal for UIS in women's indoor track & field since 2020.

Both teams finished 9th of 12 scoring teams, the women's team with 15 total points and the men's team with 21. The Lewis Flyers were the overall champions on both sides.

Women's Track & Field
The women's distance medley relay team of Marissa Roggensack, Khaniya Higginbotham, Kali Gaden and Breanna Chandler broke the UIS school record in the event to finish fifth at the championship on Saturday. 

Breanna Chandler ran 2:17.98 to claim third place in the women's 800 meter run, finishing two seconds ahead of the fourth place runner. The third place finish earned Chandler her first All-GLVC honors of her career and added six points to the team score.

Madelyn Miller tallied two top ten finishes, running 10:10.22 in the 3,000m for 7th place, and 17:54.35 in the 5,000m for 8th place to score a total of three points.

Men's Track & Field
Cort Ross was the GLVC runner-up in the 5,000 meter run in 14 minutes and 40 seconds. He earned All-GLVC honors in indoor track & field for the second time in his career and scored eight points for the team. Briar Nevills was not far behind, finishing 6th in 14:57.08. 

Noah Tegeler scored six points for his team in the men's 3,000 meters. He moved into All-GLVC position with 600 meters to run, briefly holding onto second place before finishing third for his first all-conference honors. Zach Panek followedin 8th place, running 8 minutes and 41 seconds to score one point.

Ryan Jones took on a tough trio of events on Sunday when he raced the mile, 800m, and 3,000m. Jones finished 6th in the mile, 14th in the 800m, and 16th in the 3,000m. 

Daniel Amponsah ran 7.11 in the men's 60m prelims on Saturday for a UIS school record, however missed advancing to the final round.
