Prairie Stars Win Thriller Against William Jewell Behind Gailes' Career Day

The University of Illinois Springfield women's basketball team won a thrilling contest on Saturday afternoon in Liberty, Missouri against the William Jewell Cardinals. UIS improves to 7-7 overall, with a 5-3 record in GLVC play. William Jewell drops to 4-9 overall, with a 2-5 mark in conference play. 

 

Game Summary

  • It was a very even game throughout with 6 lead changes and 12 times the score was tied 

  • Both teams shot a multitude of free-throws

  • Jewell started and ended the first quarter on runs to jump out to a 19-14 lead after the first frame

  • WJC increased the lead to as much as 13 before UIS went on a 17-6 run to cut the lead to 2 at the half

  • The third quarter was more defensive from both sides, as Jewell held a 56-53 going into the final quarter

  • UIS was able to take the lead by going 19-for-22 from the free throw line in the final quarter combined with forcing WJC into turnovers

Maryville, Drury, McKendree, Southwest Baptist, UMSL, and Lewis joined UIS in the win column on Saturday. Maryville, Lewis, and UIS all went 2-0 this week in the GLVC. Lewis is currently leading the way in the GLVC with a 7-0 record. UIS is tied for third with a 5-3 conference record.
