UIS Athletics has announced that Jacob Hanna is its final Jimmy John's Athlete of the Month for 2023. UIS student-athletes who have competed in regular season or postseason competition during the month of December were voted on by committee.

Hanna averaged 17.5 points per game in six starts in December, along with 6 rebounds, 1.67 steals, and 2.5 assists. The junior guard from Wichita, Kan. ranks fourth in the GLVC in assists,  fifth in rebounding and ninth in field goal percentage. He averaged just over 60% from the field in December, making 35-of-58 attempts.

Hanna scored 29 points against Purdue Northwest on Dec. 17 for a new career high. He went 10-for-19 from the field including two three-pointers. He also added 8 defensive rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and a block in the in-region matchup. 

Jimmy John's Athlete of the Month honorees from the 2023-24 year will be under consideration for UIS Male Athlete of the Year and UIS Female Athlete of the Year upon the end of the 2023-24 year of competition.
