Men’s Soccer Hits the Road to Face Two More In-Region GLIAC Opponents

The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team heads into the second weekend of the season with a road trip ahead. The Prairie Stars travel to nationally-ranked Wisconsin Parkside on Thursday at 12 p.m., and an 11 a.m. match against Purdue Northwest on Saturday.

UIS (1-0-1)
UIS is coming off a good weekend of results at home against nationally-ranked Saginaw Valley State and the always competitive Davenport.

On Thursday night against Saginaw Valley State, the Prairie Stars were victorious with a score of 3-0 while allowing 0 shots on target. Goals came from Joe Conway, Anton Aduwa-Emovon, and Brian Riordan.

The match Saturday started in a much different way for the Stars, as Davenport took a 2-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the game. A fightback ensued as Adrian Adames scored a goal each side of halftime to secure the draw.

About Wisconsin-Parkside (2-0-0)
Parkside jumped to No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 this week after coming off two wins away against GLVC opponents.

Scoring five goals against Quincy on Thursday, and adding another two against Lewis on Sunday, the Rangers started the year right where their offense ended last year. Six different goalscorers contributed with Alejandro Martinez being the only one to find the back of the net twice.

UIS vs. Wisconsin-Parkside History
Since 2009, UIS is 5-7-1 against Parkside and will be the fifth consecutive year that the two schools have met, besides the Spring 2021 season. In the last five meetings, UIS has only lost once, a 4-3 defeat in overtime in Kenosha during the 2021 season.

About Purdue Northwest
Coming off two draws, one home and one away, the Pride will look to earn their first win of the season during the second weekend.

Thursday saw the Pride tie 0-0 with Lewis in a very even match-up between the two schools. On Sunday, Purdue Northwest traveled to Northwood and had a thrilling 3-3 draw which saw Northwood score a goal in the last minute to tie the match. Jacob Battista, Hugo Lorenzo, and Xavier Potts scored goals for the Pride.

UIS vs. Purdue Northwest History
This will be the third time that the two schools have met, with UIS holding a 1-0-1 record in the previous two matchups. 2018's match in Hammond, Ind. saw a 1-1 draw while the 2019 match in Springfield ended in a 3-0 win for the Stars.
