#15 UIS Shuts Out #16 Saginaw Valley State, Draws with Davenport

Prairie Stars men's soccer kicked off the fall 2023 season by defeating the No. 15 ranked Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals by a score of 3-0. UIS went on to draw with the Davenport Panthers on Saturday. UIS now stands 1-0-1 on the season.

Newcomer Joe Conway scored less than ten minutes into the matchup while 2022 All-GLVC honoree Max Tweddle picked up his first assist of the season. It wasn't until well into the second half that Anton Aduwa-Emovon scored, assisted by Luis Flores. Tjerk Huis assisted Brian Riordan in what would be the final goal of the game just minutes later. The Cardinals made a late push to score during which Connor McFadden collected a save.

UIS finished with 12 total shots, including 7 on goal, while SVSU put up seven total shots. The Cardinals goalkeeper recorded four saves.

UIS vs. DU
Davenport took off with a 2-0 lead early in the first half. All-GLIAC first-teamer Eoin Broughan scored both goals for the Panthers and would go on to make two more attempts. Adrian Adames, a Prairie Star from Bilbao, Spain would score twice in the remainder of regulation to equalize the match. Adames was assisted by Max Tweddle in each goal.

UIS pressed at the start of the second half with three shots in the first five minutes. Adrian Adames found the back of the net for the final goal of the game in the 52nd minute.

The Prairie Stars will go on the road next weekend, first meeting the No. 17 Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers in Kenosha, Wis. on Thursday, then traveling to Purdue Northwest on Saturday.
