UIS hosted the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Regionals this week at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield. The UIS Prairie Stars finished eighth overall, just two spots outside of qualifying for the championship as a team. Senior Heather McLean was the top individual not on a qualifying team, and therefore advanced as an individual.

The team of Heather McLean, Elaine Grant, Isabelle Segal, Ira Joshi and Sara Prieto totaled 938 for 54 holes. UIS was four strokes back from 7th-place Ferris State and nine strokes out of sixth place.

Top Prairie Star Heather McLean went 76-73-71 to set the 54-hole program record.  "I was very happy with my performance," said McLean, "I wasn't thinking about making nationals or breaking any records, I just wanted to shoot the lowest score for my team. Obviously doing both of those things is a bonus and I'm very excited for the opportunity!"

After McLean claimed her qualifier spot, two athletes went to a playoff for the remaining qualifier spot. Kendall Farm from Lewis came away with the tiebreaker win over Lauren Gervais of Davenport. Both individual spots and two of six teams came from the Great Lakes Valley Conference. They are two of eight athletes to advance as individuals.

There was also a playoff for first place. Elyse Stasil (Indianapolis), Gabby Woods (Findlay), and Rebeca Vestman (Wayne State) tied with a 54-hole of 214 before Woods teed off greenside and birdied the first playoff hole to take the individual title.

The Findlay Oilers came away with the team title, and GLVC opponent Indianapolis took second. Grand Valley State, Wayne State (Mich.), Tiffin, and Missouri-St. Louis rounded out the qualifying teams.

The NCAA DII Women's Golf National Championship will be held at Fox Run Golf Course in Eureka, Mo. on May 16-20. All athletes will compete in three rounds of stroke play before the top eight teams advance to medal/match play.
