Five Prairie Stars track and field athletes finished among the top-10 athletes in their respective events this weekend at the Lee Flames Invitational. More than ten top-5 all-time program marks were set as well.
Two Prairie Stars set records at the invitational. First, on Friday,
Hayley Goebel marked 31.65 meters in the discus throw to set a new UIS record.
Elijah Martin set the UIS record in the men's 200 meter run with a time of 23.53.
Daniel Amponsah, the previous record holder, nearly missed dipping below his old record as well.
Chris Cherry was the individual champion in the men's 1500 meter. The sophomore split 58.57 over the final 400 meters to finish in a UIS #3 mark of 3:49.22.
The UIS distance runners had an impressive showing in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter races, led by
Cort Ross who finished seventh in the men's 5,000. His 14:24.09 mark is good for UIS #2 all-time. Maddie Miller (5,000m) and
Jade Aubrey (10,000m) set UIS #3 marks and
Wyatt McIntyre ran the fourth fastest outdoor men's 5,000m race in UIS history.

UIS track and field will take a group of qualifying athletes to the Bryan Clay Invitational in Asuza, California next week. Three regular season meets remain before the GLVC Championships on May 4-6.
